Team TUSI - LappaBeDoor: A Celebration of Culture, Community & Unity

LappaBeDoor was a tremendous success. From 12:00 noon to 10:00 PM, people came and went throughout the day to celebrate our culture, strengthen our community, and embrace unity.

Liberian Lappa was proudly on display. Women wore their Team TUSI tops with their favorite Lappas, while many men showed their support in Team TUSI T-shirts. It was a beautiful expression of culture, pride, and joy.

The authentic Liberian food was a highlight. The menu included Torborgee, GB, Dumboy, Egusi, rice and fish, fish and plantain, roasted meat, and fish with kala and kabob. The lines formed early, and everything sold out quickly—especially the GB, which disappeared almost immediately.

Special thanks to DJ Too Fast for keeping the energy high with great music all day. Teplah, Bebe, and the rest of the TUSI Ambassador and food team did an excellent job preparing the meals, while Oritha provided outstanding leadership in overseeing the catering and keeping everything running smoothly. We are especially grateful to Jennie and her sisters for opening their home and making this warm, welcoming event possible.

The day reflected community spirit at its best. It was inspiring to see young adults step up into leadership roles, and Team TUSI remains committed to welcoming everyone’s ideas because we believe a stronger community is built when every voice is heard.

As always, Team TUSI was well represented. We were also pleased to welcome members from both sides of the election, who experienced the TUSI spirit and saw firsthand what true community engagement and unity look like.

William Russ II emphasized the importance of LIBAC membership dues and how they help strengthen and sustain our community. He also educated attendees on voter eligibility, including the need to register and remain current with membership dues. New immigration laws were also discussed, helping attendees better understand recent changes and their potential impact on the community. The presentations were followed by an encouraging increase in new member registrations and dues payments.

Lappa-Be-Door was more than a cultural event—it was a reminder of what is possible when a community comes together with shared purpose. Team TUSI welcomed everyone with open arms, and together we celebrated our culture, our heritage, and our commitment to building a stronger future.
