On Saturday, July 25, 2026, the Liberian Community of Greater Charlotte gathered at Sugaw Creek Park to celebrate Liberia’s 179th Independence Day. The park was transformed into a vibrant display of Liberian pride, culture, music, food, fashion and community unity.
From the Liberian flags waving proudly throughout the park to the colorful African attire, delicious traditional food and energetic performances, the celebration reflected the beauty and strength of the Liberian community.
The overwhelming attendance demonstrated how meaningful Liberia’s Independence Day remains to Liberians living in the Charlotte area.
Team TUSI Put Impact Into Action
A Day of Unity, Service and Impact
Liberia’s 179th Independence celebration was more than a festival. It was a demonstration of what is possible when a community works together.
It was a day filled with unity. Most importantly, it was a day filled with impact.
Team TUSI’s contributions could be seen throughout the park—from the stage and generator to transportation, traffic support, volunteers, entertainment and giveaways. Every donation and every hour of service helped strengthen the celebration.
This is what Team TUSI brings to the Liberian community of Greater Charlotte: Tone, Unity, Service and Impact.
Our commitment is not limited to campaign promises. We believe in showing up, doing the work and contributing the resources necessary to move our community forward.
The success of this celebration belongs to the entire community. Team TUSI was honored to stand alongside LIBAC, our volunteers, business partners, performers, vendors, law-enforcement officers and the hundreds of families who came together to celebrate Liberia.

These contributions reflected Team TUSI’s belief that leadership must be demonstrated through service, action and measurable results.
Six Hours of Shuttle Service
With parking areas filling quickly, transportation became one of the most important needs of the day.
Team TUSI presidential candidate William Z. Russ II and Campaign Chairman Giorgio Gbenyon personally took turns transporting people to and from the park. For nearly six hours, they helped shuttle attendees so that families, elders and other community members could safely reach the celebration.
Their willingness to serve personally represented the leadership style Team TUSI brings to the community: leaders who are present, accessible and prepared to work alongside everyone else.
This was leadership through action—not simply words.
TUSI Members and Youth Ambassadors Serve the Community
TUSI Youth Ambassadors assisted throughout the event, demonstrating that young people can play an important role in community service and cultural preservation. Their participation represented the next generation of Liberian leadership in Greater Charlotte.
Other members volunteered wherever help was needed. Mr. Turay, for example, positioned himself near the entrance and worked to help control the flow of traffic. He coordinated with members of the Sheriff’s Department and helped maintain order as the number of vehicles and visitors increased.

Thank you to DJ PJ for keeping the park entertained throughout the day. His dedication and musical energy helped maintain the festive atmosphere from beginning to end.
