The Lappa Be Door event was a great success. From 12 noon to 11:45 PM, people kept coming and going, celebrating culture, community, and unity. The merit, the culture, and the beauty of the Lappa were proudly on display. It was a wonderful day to see our culture expressed in such a meaningful way.
The women wore their regular tops with their favorite Lappas, while many others, especially the men, wore their TUSI T-shirts.
The food was amazing and included Torborgee, GB, Egusi, rice and fish, fish and plantain, roasted meat, and fish with kala. Before the food was even fully ready, the lines had already formed, and in the blink of an eye, everything was gone. The GB especially disappeared before you could blink!
DJ Too Fast kept the music going, Teplah handled the food, and Oretha was fully active as always, controlling the catering and making sure everything went smoothly. A special thank you to Jennie for opening her home and allowing us to open the Lappa Door at her house.
This was community spirit at its best. The young adults are ready to take the lead, and Team TUSI remains open to everyone’s ideas.
As always, Team TUSI was in full attendance. We also had members from both parties present, witnessing the TUSI spirit and taking with them a good example of what true community should look like.
William Russ II emphasized the importance of LIBA dues and what they mean for the growth and support of the community. He also educated the audience on the voting eligibility process, including registration and dues payment.
Following his message, we saw an influx of new registrations and dues payments.
TUSI welcomed everyone with open arms, and together we had a wonderful Lappa Be Door cultural day.
