CHARLOTTE, NC — Rain did not stop the movement, and it certainly did not stop Team TUSI. On Saturday, June 27, 2026, the Team TUSI Campaign officially launched at Sugar Creek Park in what many described as an energetic and historic community gathering.

The event, which ran from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM, brought out a large crowd of supporters, families, elders, youth, community leaders, vendors, and invited guests. Despite the rain, the parking lot was packed, the shelter was filled beyond capacity, and the atmosphere remained joyful, focused, and full of excitement.

The campaign launch opened with a prayer led by Rosee W. Nimely, Team TUSI’s candidate for Chaplain. Following the prayer, the full Team TUSI ticket was introduced to the public: William Zachariah Russ II for President, Emily Anim for Vice President, Lauren Kyne for Secretary, Zachariah Harmon for Financial Secretary, Massa Roberts for Treasurer, Rosee W. Nimely for Chaplain, and Eric Pasawe for Parliamentarian.

One by one, the candidates took the stage to share their message with the community. The campaign’s core values, Tone, Unity, Service, and Impact, were strongly emphasized throughout the program, as speakers highlighted the importance of respectful leadership, community togetherness, transparent service, and meaningful results.

Presidential candidate William Zachariah Russ II delivered a message centered on unity, respect, inclusion, and progress. He thanked attendees for coming out despite the weather and spoke about bringing the community together across all ages and backgrounds. Russ also stressed the importance of strengthening relationships between elders, youth, and families, creating safe spaces for dialogue, and rebuilding trust through consistent and open communication.

In a key moment during the event, Russ introduced representatives from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department. CMPD officers addressed the crowd and shared information about resources available to the community, including support for those facing challenges and those simply seeking guidance. The officers also spoke about leadership, answered questions from attendees, and distributed gifts to children.

Vice presidential candidate Emily Anim delivered a heartfelt message as a mother and caregiver. She brought her children to the stage, proudly showcasing their talents and highlighting the importance of family, care, and community support. Anim spoke about her years of service in caregiving and explained how that same passion for helping others would guide her work for the community. Her remarks focused strongly on the “I” in TUSI: Impact.

Secretary candidate Lauren Kyne welcomed the crowd and thanked everyone for showing up. She energized the audience and reminded them of the importance of voting, participation, and taking an active role in the future of the community.

Treasurer candidate Massa Roberts delivered a strong message on accountability and transparency. Roberts reminded the audience that she has been active in the Charlotte community for more than 30 years and said her campaign is rooted in responsible leadership and trust.

Financial Secretary candidate Zachariah Harmon also focused on transparency and unity. He assured the community that Team TUSI is committed to proper documentation, responsible management of funds, and clear reporting on the flow of community resources.

Chaplain candidate Rosee W. Nimely spoke about togetherness, love for the community, and the need for action. She encouraged attendees to join the movement and help bring positive change.

The Team TUSI campaign manager also addressed the crowd, expressing joy over the strong turnout. He assured the community that “everything will be okay” and emphasized that the community is not divided, but instead engaged in a healthy competition of ideas, leadership, and service.

Community voice Mr. Leon C. Tyes also took the stage, reminding attendees that Team TUSI is not seeking to boss the community, but to work with the community. He spoke directly about working with youth, young adults, elders, and families. Following his remarks, Team TUSI ambassadors gathered in a powerful show of solidarity and support for change.

The launch also included a surprise performance from Cyrus Tyes, who introduced a campaign song that brought excitement and celebration to the gathering.

Food, drinks, music, and fellowship filled the park throughout the day. The grill was active, children enjoyed themselves, and the crowd remained engaged from beginning to end.

Team TUSI closed the event by thanking everyone who attended, including CMPD, endorsed vendors, elders, youth, families, supporters, and the broader community.

Despite the rain, the message from Sugar Creek Park was loud and clear: Team TUSI has officially launched, and the campaign is moving forward with Tone, Unity, Service, and Impact.
